Game Summary

Canadian Interuniversity Sport All-Stars 2 - Canada White 5

THIBAULT’S TWO GOALS LEAD CANADA WHITE TO WIN OVER CIS

Dominique Thibault  (L’Orignal, ON/University of Connecticut, HE) scored two goals as Canada White beat a team of Canadian Interuniversity Sport (CIS) all-stars 5-2 at the National Women’s Under-22 selection camp on Friday at York University in Toronto.

The win pushed Canada White’s record to 2-1 heading into the camp finale on Saturday (2 p.m. EDT) against 3-0 Canada Red. The CIS completed the camp at 0-4.

Thibault’s two goals were part of a four-goal second period for Canada White. Carolyne Prevost (Sarnia, ON/London, PWHL) gave Canada White a 2-1 lead less than two minutes into the second with a short-handed goal before Thibault scored her second and third goals of the event to extend her team’s lead to three goals before the second frame hit its midway point.

Leah Copeland (Calgary, AB/University of Alberta, CIS) opened the scoring for Canada White with a powerplay goal just over two minutes into the game, while teammate Rebecca Johnston (Sudbury, ON, Cornell University, ECAC) rounded out the scoring late in the second period.

Kori Cheverie and Caroline Hill replied for the CIS.

CIS head coach Dan Church will now evaluate his roster and select a team to represent Canada at the 2009 Winter Universiade, February 18-28 in Harbin, China.

The 22-member National Women’s Under-22 Team will be announced on Sunday morning and will travel to Pierrefonds, QC for a three-game series against the USA’s Women’s Under-22 Select Team, beginning August 23.
