CANADA WRAPS UP SWEEP WITH ROUT OF KOREANS

SURREY, B.C. – On Monday, it was Billy Bridges (Summerside, P.E.I.) who led the way for Canada’s National Sledge Team, racking up seven points in an 8-2 win over Korea. Twenty-four hours later, it was the other members of Canada’s big three that did the damage.

Bradley Bowden (Orton, Ont.) scored twice and added three assists and Greg Westlake (Oakville, Ont.) had a hat trick and a helper as Canada completed a three-game sweep of the Koreans with a 9-0 win on Tuesday.

Canada outscored the Koreans 21-2 in the series at the Surrey Sports and Leisure Complex and goaltender Corbin Watson (Kingsville, Ont.) earned his first shutout for Canada, matching the feat of Benoît St-Amand (St-Hubert, Que.), who blanked the Asian side in Sunday’s series opener.

After a slow start – Westlake’s first goal was the only marker of the opening period – Canada’s offence awake early in the second, with Westlake, Bowden and Bridges all scoring in a span of 3:31 to make it 4-0.

Canadian captain Jean Labonté (Hull, Que.) made it 5-0 before the end of the middle frame before Bowden added his second of the game early in the third period and Westlake wrapped up his hat trick just shy of the midway point of the final 15 minutes.

Jeremy Booker (Ajax, Ont.) and Todd Nicholson (Kinburn, Ont.) rounded out the scoring late as Canada improved its 2009-10 record to 8-3 with the 2010 Paralympic Winter Games in Vancouver on the horizon.
