2010 TELUS Cup

St. John's Fog Devils  1 -  Mississauga Reps  4

SUBBAN STEALS THE SHOW IN REPS’ WIN

LÉVIS, QUE. – The eyes of hockey fans in Lévis, Que., have been on Malcolm Subban throughout this week. That’s what happens when you’re the brother of World Junior Champion P.K. Subban, a member of the American Hockey League’s Hamilton Bulldogs and a player who seems destined to wear the red and white of the famed Montreal Canadiens.

This week at the 2010 TELUS Cup, Malcolm Subban is making a name for himself. He stopped 36 shots on Thursday as Mississauga knocked off the St. John’s Fog Devils 4-1 in preliminary-round action. Subban looked comfortable from the start of the game to the finish, rarely giving up rebounds.

The win gives Mississauga a record of 2-2 and four points at the event. That should put the team in the playoff picture come the weekend, although there is a lot of hockey left, with a potential tiebreaker between several teams coming into effect for the final two spots. St. John’s dropped to 1-1-2.

Andreas Tsogkas (Toronto, Ont.) and Kevin Pietrobon (Mississauga, Ont.) scored for the Reps in the first and Mississauga seemed to be on its way to an easy victory. But the Fog Devils didn’t go away and created several good scoring chances over the final 40 minutes.

St. John’s leading scorer Zach O’Brien (St. John’s, N.L.) had two clear-cut breakaways but was turned away each time by Subban. O’Brien finally got a bit of revenge with five minutes to play in the game when he scored on the power play. But it was too little too late.

Josh Wiley (Oakville, Ont.) and Wes Deme (Mississauga, Ont.) also scored for the Reps.
