2010 TELUS Cup

Red Deer Optimist Rebels  4 -  Commandeurs de Lévis  1

REBELS EARN FIRST WIN AT TELUS CUP

LÉVIS, QUE. – After three days at the 2010 TELUS Cup, there may be more questions than answers as to which teams are the favourites and which are the pretenders.

The Red Deer Optimist Rebels defeated the Lévis Commandeurs 4-1 on Wednesday night, creating a logjam in the standings. Three teams – Antoine-Girouard, Notre Dame and St. John’s are tied for first place with four points – and three teams – Lévis, Mississauga and Red Deer – are right behind, with two points each.

All of this creates a lot interest in Thursday’s action.

First, back to Wednesday. Red Deer started strong, with a three-goal outburst in the first period. Colin Valcourt (Red Deer, Alta.), Troy Klaus (Red Deer, Alta.) and Nate Engert (Red Deer, Alta.) scored goals and Red Deer took a 3-0 lead into the second period.

The lone goal of the middle frame came at 3:10 when Louis-David Bourgault (Montmagny, Que.) sniped on the power play.

Tanner Dunkle (Red Deer, Alta.) finished the scoring for the Rebels in the third.

Red Deer faces Antoine-Girouard in Thursday’s early game, with Lévis taking on Notre Dame in the late game.
