2010 TELUS Cup

Mississauga Reps 4 - Gaulois du Collège Antoine-Girouard 6

BERGERON SCORES FOUR DURING GAULOIS VICTORY

LÉVIS, QUE. – The Gaulois du Collège Antoine-Girouard took a big step towards qualifying for the playoff round of the 2010 TELUS Cup.

After two consecutive ties at the National Midget Championship, the Gaulois used a great third period to knock off the Mississauga Reps 6-4 on Wednesday. The win gives Antoine-Girouard a record of 1-0-2 and four points in the standings. Mississauga is 1-2-0.

The Gaulois scored two goals 17 seconds apart in the third period to erase a one-goal deficit and take a 4-3 lead on the Reps.

Kevin Bergeron (Ste. Julie, Que.) entered Wednesday’s game without a goal for the Gaulois. But his four-goal effort versus the Reps vaulted him into a tie for the scoring lead. Everything Bergeron touched on Wednesday found the back of the net.

Antoine-Girouard also got a goal from Cédric Leblanc (Marieville, Que.) and an empty-netter from Sébastien Sylvestre (Boucherville, Que.).

Mississauga led 2-1 after the first period and 3-2 after two but couldn’t deliver the final blow. Antoine-Girouard took a 5-3 lead early in the third before Jordan Auld (Toronto, Ont.) stopped the bleeding with a power play goal at 7:22. The Reps also got goals from Wes Deme (Mississauga, Ont.), Gianluca Curcuruto (Richmond Hill, Ont.) and Andreas Tsogkas (Toronto, Ont.).

The Gaulois will face the Red Deer Optimist Rebels on Thursday, with the Reps facing off against the St. John’s Fog Devils.
