TEAM CANADA CAPTURES GOLD MEDAL
AT 2003 IIHF MEN’S WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP

Team Canada captured the gold medal at the 2003 IIHF Men’s World Hockey Championship after a 3-2 overtime win over Sweden on Sunday in Helsinki, Finland. This marks Canada’s first medal at the World Championship since 1997 when it captured a gold medal. Today’s gold medal marks Canada’s 16th gold medal in the history of the World Championship, as a stand-alone event. Canada won gold in 1931, 1934, 1935, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1950, 1951, 1958, 1959, 1961, 1994, 1997 and 2003. » more

Finland opened the scoring on a goal by Esa Pirnes, on a powerplay. Canada responded to three straight goals, Shane Peacock, Craig Ferguson and team captain Jamie Heward gave Canada at 3-1. Juha Lind scored at 16:56 of the first period to make it Canada 3 Finland 2. » more

 

CANADA WINS
2002 SPENGLER CUP

CALGARY, AB - Canada's National Men's Team capped off a perfect 2002 Spengler Cup with a 3-2 win over the host team, HC Davos in the tournament final on Tuesday morning. The game was played in front of a sold out Davos Arena 7,680, which was sold out for all eleven Spengler Cup games. Canada went undefeated in the tournament with a perfect 5-0 record. » more

2003 WORLD MEN'S CHAMPIONSHIP
IN FINLAND

From May 1 to 4, 2003, the IIHF will organize the 2003 International Coaching Symposium in Espoo, Finland. The 2003 International Coaching Symposium is open to top level coaches, physicians, physiotherapists, managers and scientists from all sporting disciplines. This Symposium is operated by the IIHF, in close collaboration with the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, to provide an educational service to expected 250 attendees. » more
