December 20, 2021

St. Paul, Minn.  The following is a statement on behalf of Hockey Canada from Tom Renney, chief executive officer, and Scott Smith, president and chief operating officer.

“Regrettably, due to ongoing concerns around the COVID-19 pandemic, the National Women’s Team game against the United States scheduled for Monday night in St. Paul has been cancelled. Team Canada was to play the seventh game of the Rivalry Series, the final one played in the U.S., tonight before the series shifts back to Canada for the final two games, Jan. 3 in Edmonton and Jan. 6 in Red Deer, Alta.

While it is disappointing to not be able to play the game, the priority remains the health and safety of the athletes, staff and the community at large.

As per Hockey Canada’s safety protocols, all players, coaches and staff members took mandatory COVID-19 tests prior to departure on Dec. 13 and have continued to be tested daily throughout the week while in the United States. The medical staff also continues to follow all protocols as outlined by health authorities and is continuing to monitor the situation closely.”

In addition to the cancellation of tonight’s game, Hockey Canada has also postponed the Women’s Olympic Team roster announcement to a yet-to-be-determined date.”
