Quotes:

“We live and learn from [our penalties]. It was great practice for [our penalty kill], so we will take that and run with it, but we need to learn to get used to international officiating and be more disciplined moving forward. We are excited for the challenge [of playing the US], but we just need to keep on our path, keep sticking to our process and take it one game at a time.”

-         Assistant coach Tara Watchorn (Newcastle, Ont./Stonehill College, NEWHA) on her team’s penalty kill and the upcoming game against the United States

It feels great to have the first win under our belt, and to have some momentum going into our next game. Getting my first goal at this level of play was such an exciting moment, and for it to be the first goal of the game [for us] felt really good.

-         Kirchmair on getting the first win and scoring Canada’s first goal of the tournament

“I did not see anyone around the puck on my goal. It was right in front of the net and thought I’d try and jump right through to it, and I got rewarded. I liked our energy today. I thought were all taking our battles personally, and it was a positive that we were able to win those battles and come out of them with the puck.”

-         Hicks on scoring her second goal of the game and the team’s energy against Sweden
