CLARKE GETS SHOOTOUT WINNER, WHITE COMES BACK TO BEAT GREEN

LINDSAY LEGGETT

CALGARY, Alta. – Graeme Clarke (Ottawa, Ont./Toronto Marlboros, GTHL) netted the lone goal in the shootout, completing the White comeback and giving it a 3-2 win over Green at Canada’s national under-17 development camp Wednesday.

Clarke was the first shooter for White, and snapped a quick shot to the glove side on Christian Sbaraglia (Mississauga, Ont./Vaughan, GTHL) for the eventual winner.

Taylor Gauthier (Calgary, Alta./Calgary Buffaloes, AMHL) was a perfect five-for-five in the White goal in the shootout, backstopping his team to the victory.

Green dominated the early part of the first period, taking a 2-0 lead before the eight-minute mark; Josh Williams (Langley, B.C./Yale Hockey Academy, CSSHL) struck first at 5:02, racing away on a breakaway from his own blue-line before beating Gauthier, and Brandon Coe (Ajax, Ont./Toronto Nationals, GTHL) tapped in a feed from Williams on a three-on-one at 7:23 to double the advantage.

White got one back midway through the second period when Navrin Mutter (Lucan, Ont./Elgin Middlesex, MHAO) redirected in a point shot from Kirby Proctor (Okotoks, Alta./Pursuit of Excellence, CSSHL), but headed to the intermission still down a goal.

Connor Bouchard (Cochrane, Alta./Okanagan Hockey Academy, CSSHL) did the honours in the final frame, tying the game for White with less than seven minutes left to force the shootout.

After giving way to Mack Guzda (Nashville, Tenn./Detroit Honeybaked, USU16) midway through the second period, Gauthier returned for the shootout and starred, stopping Xavier Parent (Blainville, Que./Collège Esther-Blondin, LHMAAAQ), Samuel Poulin (Blainville, Que./Collège Esther-Blondin, LHMAAAQ), Bouchard, Alex Swetlikoff (Kelowna, B.C./Yale Hockey Academy, CSSHL) and Camaryn Baber (Sault Ste. Marie, Ont./Soo, GNML).
