Return to Hockey information for Northwest Territories

COVID-19 updates for Hockey North players, parents, coaches, officials and volunteers in the Northwest Territories

The following information pertains to a model that has been put into effect to prepare leagues and hockey associations to reopen. These plans are very dynamic and rely on ongoing assessment of the current COVID-19 situation within provinces and territories.

Territorial Guidelines & Restrictions

The plan is built on a phased approach to slowly and responsibly lift restrictions on residents, businesses and society, while aiming to maintain the territory’s approach of eliminating or minimizing community spread through the life of the pandemic.

This choice is based on a few key principles:

  • Remote communities are particularly at risk of spread once COVID-19 is introduced.
  • The capacity of the territory’s health-care system to respond must be protected.
  • The Northwest Territories are uniquely positioned to implement a containment strategy due to geographic location.

Information on territorial requirements continues to change. Hockey Canada recommends checking the following resources regularly.
