2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Russia 4 - Ontario 3 (OT)

BEATON SCORES TWICE AS ATLANTIC TAKES SEVENTH PLACE

TECUMSEH, Ont. – Bronson Beaton (Springhill, N.S./Shawinigan, QMJHL) scored the tying goal late in the second period and the game-winner eight minutes into the third as Atlantic claimed seventh place at the 2012 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge with a 4-2 win over the Czech Republic on Tuesday night.

It’s the fourth year in a row Atlantic has won its placement game – it beat Finland 9-6 for ninth place in 2009, topped West 4-2 for seventh in 2010 and knocked off West 2-1 for fifth place last year.

Alex Gallant (Stratford, P.E.I./Charlottetown, NBPEIMMHL) and Oliver Cooper (Fredericton, N.B./Saint John, QMJHL), into an empty net, also scored for Atlantic, which ran its unbeaten streak against the Czechs to four games (3-0-1). Jacob Fancy (Lower Sackville, N.S./Halifax, NSMMHL) made 29 saves in the Atlantic goal to record his first win of the tournament.

Jakub Vrana and Martin Kohout had the goals for the Czechs, who outshot the Canadian side 31-29 and finished eighth for the second year in a row, following last year’s 5-4 loss to Finland in the seventh-place game.
