2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

Pacific 4 - Québec 0

SPECIAL TEAMS HELPS PACIFIC TO FIFTH PLACE

TIMMINS, Ont. – Its 2010 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge may have been a disappointment when compared to its 2009 performance, but Pacific did something Sunday it failed to do one year ago in Port Alberni, B.C. – finish the tournament with a win.

Myles Bell scored once shorthanded and set up another while a man short and Ty Rattie added a power play goal and an assist as the western Canadian side took home fifth place with a 4-0 win over Quebec at McIntyre Arena. Last year Pacific was the silver medalists, falling to Ontario in the gold medal game.

Brock Balson and Reece Scarlett had the other goals for Pacific, which got shutout goaltending from Laurent Brossoit in the win. Brossoit made 20 saves in the victory, 16 of them in the final 40 minutes in picking up his second win in as many tournament appearances.

Robin Gusse made 11 saves in the first 40 minutes before giving way to Jeffrey Noonan, who stopped four of the five shots he faced in his first action of the tournament. The loss means Quebec, which won U17 gold in 2006 in Regina, Sask., has finished in the bottom half of the final standings in two of the three tournaments since.
