2012 TELUS Cup

Moncton Flyers 4 - Saskatoon Contacts 4

CHARTIER COMPLETES COMEBACK, CONTACTS EARN TIE WITH FLYERS

LEDUC, Alta. – Rourke Chartier scored his second goal of the game with 7:36 remaining as the Saskatoon Contacts skated to a 4-4 tie with the Moncton Flyers in the final preliminary round game for both at the 2012 TELUS Cup on Friday afternoon.

The draw means Saskatoon (2-1-2) will finish third and will play in Saturday’s early semifinal (2 p.m. MT) against either Collège Esther-Blondin or Red Deer, depending on the outcome of Friday’s final preliminary game between the Phénix and host Leduc Oil Kings.

Branden Scheidl and Jeremy Leblanc had the other goals for the Contacts, who trailed 4-1 early in the third period before rattling off three unanswered goals in a span of 6:19 to grab a single point. Rylan Parenteau got his first start of the tournament and finished with 26 saves.

Samuel LeBlanc scored twice to lead the offence for Moncton (1-3-1), while Stephen Johnson and Alexandre Jacob had the other goals for the Flyers, scoring 14 seconds apart early in the second period to break open a scoreless tie. Nathan Armstrong had another strong start for Moncton, turning aside 39 shots.

The Flyers, who won the New Brunswick/P.E.I. Major Midget Hockey League regular season championship, New Brunswick provincial title and Atlantic Region crown, losing only four games in the process, saw their season come to an end.
