2015 Esso Cup set to begin in Red Deer, Alta.

RED DEER, Alta. – The puck is about to drop on the 2015 Esso Cup, Canada’s National Female Midget Championship.

The seventh annual event, presented in partnership by Hockey Canada, Hockey Alberta, the Red Deer Minor Hockey Commission and the Alberta Major Midget Female Hockey League, starts this Sunday, April 19 and runs through to Saturday, April 25 at Red Deer Arena.

The host Red Deer Chiefs join five regional and provincial champions, the Edmonton Thunder (Pacific - Alberta), Central Plains Capitals (West - Manitoba), Saskatoon Stars (West - Saskatchewan), Sudbury Lady Wolves (Ontario) and Moncton Rockets (Atlantic), for a five-day preliminary round, followed by semifinals and medal games.

Full-tournament general admission ticket packages to all 19 games, including the semifinals and both medal games, can be purchased for just $50 each, plus applicable fees, by clicking HERE. Day passes are available at the door for $10 during the preliminary round, $12 for both semifinal games and $15 for medal games.

The gold medal game will air on TSN/RDS, the official broadcasters of Hockey Canada, with the game starting at 5:30 p.m. ET/2:30 p.m. PT on Saturday, April 25 on TSN 2 and on tape delay at 7:00 p.m. ET/4:00 p.m. PT on Monday, April 27 on RDS. All preliminary round games, as well as the semifinals Friday, April 24 and bronze medal game, will be available for viewing online by FASTHockey at www.hockeycanada.ca/essocup.

“We’re excited to welcome the top female Midget teams from across the country to Red Deer,” said Todd Thiessen, chair of the 2015 Esso Cup host organizing committee. “Red Deer is a passionate hockey city and we’re thrilled to host some of Canada’s future women’s hockey stars as they aim to become Esso Cup champions.”

The 2015 Esso Cup awards banquet is scheduled for 9 a.m. MT on Friday, April 24 at the Pidherney Curling Centre in Red Deer, and will feature Tara Veer, mayor of the City of Red Deer, as guest speaker.
