CALGARY, Alta. – Canada’s National Para Hockey Team is headed to Paradise, N.L., to take on the Czech Republic, Russia and the United States at the 2019 Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup, Dec. 1-7.

Tickets are now on sale for the event, which was rebranded from the World Sledge Hockey Challenge in 2018. Fans will be able to purchase a full-tournament package for $69, which includes all 10 games, or single-game tickets. The schedule features six preliminary-round games, including a much-anticipated Canada-U.S. showdown on Dec. 4. The full-event package also includes both semifinals on Dec. 5, as well as the bronze and gold medal games on Dec. 7.

“The excitement of hosting the Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup is beginning to grow,” said Don Dyke, chair of the host organizing committee. “With four teams representing the elite level of the sport, the tournament promises to display an incredible level of skill, athleticism and passion.”

The 2019 tournament marks the first time Newfoundland and Labrador has hosted the Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup. It will give fans an up-close look at St. John’s native Liam Hickey, who has helped Canada to gold (2017) and silver (2019) at the IPC World Para Hockey Championship, and silver at the 2018 Paralympic Winter Games.

“It’s going to be an exciting tournament to play in, but more than that I’m thrilled to be able to bring the sport to the people who have supported me through my career,” said Hickey. “It’s the first para hockey tournament of this calibre hosted in Newfoundland and Labrador, and I can’t wait to see all of the support for Team Canada.”

Canada is looking for its sixth gold medal at the tournament, but first since 2013. It has never failed to medal, winning five gold medals (2007, 2008, April 2011, November 2011, 2013), six silver (2009, 2012, January 2016, December 2016, 2017, 2018) and one bronze (2015).

The host organizing committee is looking for volunteers to help make the Canadian Tire Para Hockey Cup a success for Newfoundland and Labrador. Anyone interested in volunteering can apply online.
