Five regional champions from across Canada will compete with the host team for the Esso Cup, and the right to be called national champions. The growth of the women’s game in Canada continues as a national champion is crowned for women’s minor hockey.

TELUS Cup

Dany Heatley, Simon Gagne and Sidney Crosby are just a few of the players who have had international success after playing for the National Midget Championship. This year, for the 40th time, a new crop of future stars will fight for the right to be called national champions.

Royal Bank Cup

Since 1971, teams from across Canada have fought for the National Junior A Championship. This season, more than 128 teams from 10 leagues – from Port Alberni, B.C. to Woodstock, N.B. – will play for the right to take to the ice at the 2013 RBC Cup.

Allan Cup

One of the oldest national championships in the country, Canada’s best Senior AAA teams compete every year for the Allan Cup. In its 103 years of existence, teams from every province, as well as the Yukon and the United States, have claimed the Allan Cup.

World Junior A Challenge

Created to showcase the talent in Canada’s 10 Junior A leagues, the World Junior A Challenge debuted in Yorkton and Humboldt, Sask. in 2006. Two Canadian teams are joined by four other international teams to participate in this event.

World Under-17 Hockey Challenge

With five teams and more than 100 players representing Canada, the future of Canadian hockey is on display at the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. The first step in Hockey Canada’s Program of Excellence, the under-17 level has produced hundreds of NHL draft picks.

World Sport School Challenge

The World Sport School Challenge was developed in line with Hockey Canada’s commitment to foster its growing relationship with sport schools and give students attending sport schools the chance to play at a higher level, including against national under-17 teams.

National Women's Under 18 Championship

Before they hit the ice for Canada’s National Women’s Under-22/Development Team or National Women’s Team, the future of women’s hockey debuts on the national stage at the National Women’s Under-18 Championship, fighting for a gold medal and national bragging rights.

Canada Winter Games

The Canada Winter Games are held every four years, with players competing for their home province. The 2011 Games marked the first time that men’s hockey was an under-16 tournament after previously replacing the World Under-17 Hockey Challenge. Sidney Crosby, Paul Kariya, Bob Gainey and Steven Stamkos have all participated at the Canada Winter Games.

Senior Women's Nationals

From 1982 to 2008, the top players in Canada met to play for the Abby Hoffman Cup, symbolic of national women’s hockey supremacy. Legends of the women’s game, from Geraldine Heaney to Hayley Wickenheiser, took part in the tournament during its long run.

Canada Winter Games

The Canada Winter Games are held every four years, with players competing for their home provinces. Women’s hockey was introduced at the 1991 Games in Charlottetown, P.E.I. Notable alumnae include Meghan Agosta, Jayna Hefford, Marie-Philip Poulin and Hayley Wickenheiser, who all went on to win a gold medal for Canada at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, B.C.
