Hockey Canada developed the Speak Out program in 1997 in order to educate and prevent bullying, harassment and abuse in hockey across Canada. Since then, a comprehensive program of training, education and awareness of bullying, harassment and abuse has been accomplished through workshops, resource materials and branch and association initiatives. All of these factors have focused on coaches, managers, safety people, parents, players and administrators.

As you are aware, Hockey Canada is determined to reduce the number of concussions in sport and specifically in Hockey. RESPECT, rules and enforcement of the rules, education, awareness, and strong skill development are all key steps to reducing the number of concussions in the game. We all have a role whether we are players, parents or adults involved with the game.

The Hockey Canada Safety program is a development initiative of Hockey Canada and is a volunteer hockey program. The emphasis of this program is on injury prevention and safety through risk management and education.

The Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey Program seeks to inform parents, coaches and players of the values in developing a positive attitude towards healthy competition, cooperative teamwork, fair play and grace under pressure. The Chevrolet Safe & Fun Hockey Program is designed to educate all involved in the game about Respect and Responsibility in the game that we all love.

With Canada’s success on the international stage, female hockey has continued to grow. Opportunities for players, coaches and officials to be involved in minor hockey and high performance programs have increased in large part to programs and events held across Canada.
