World Girls Hockey Weekend Events Across Canada

The 2012 IIHF World Girls’ Hockey Weekend takes place Oct. 13 and 14 at rinks across the globe, including in many communities right here in Canada.

The following list includes some but not all of activities scheduled across the country. Please contact your Hockey Canada branch for more information on how to register for IIHF World Girls’ Hockey Weekend events in your area.


BC Hockey

  • City of Dawson Creek invites any female older than six years old to come out and try hockey Oct. 14 at Memorial Arena.
  • Richmond Ravens Female Hockey Association will be hosting Novice exhibitions game Oct. 13.
  • BC Hockey and the South Coast Female Amateur Hockey League are hosting the female Midget AAA and Senior A/AA Women’s League Weekends at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex from Oct. 12 through Oct. 14, featuring 10 Midget and nine Senior games.
  • Female Tyke, Novice and Atom players from Pacific Coast Amateur Hockey Association will “shadow” the Midget and Senior teams during the Women’s League Weekends at the Surrey Sport and Leisure Complex.
  • Terrace Minor Hockey Association is hosting Esso Fun Days on Oct. 14 (email bob_sham@telus.net for more information).
  • Vancouver Girls Hockey Association is hosting fun scrimmages for registered players from Atom through Midget, as well as on-ice sessions for Initiation aged girls with Peewee aged girls.
  • Victoria Minor Hockey Association is hosting Bring a Friend Day, inviting players to bring a buddy to the rink to give hockey a try Oct. 12 (equipment will be provided).

Onatrio Women's Hockey Association 
  • 2013 IIHF Ice Hockey Women’s World Championship host committee is holding several activities at Carleton University’s Ice House, including several female minor hockey practices; introductory off-ice sessions to topics such as nutrition and sport psychology; an officiating clinic; a mother-daughter team training on-ice session and a One Goal try hockey session.
  • Gananoque Girls Hockey Association is hosting a development tournament for Bantam and Midget players, as well as fun off-ice training sessions, featuring Gananoque Secondary School and the Queen’s University women’s team.
  • Guelph Girls Hockey Association is hosting a fun ice session with Midget and Novice age girls and holding a food drive as a way to give back to the community.
  • Nepean Girls Hockey Association is giving young female players the chance to coach their mothers, most who have never tried hockey before.
  • Waterloo Girls Minor Hockey Association is hosting the Hockey Marathon at RIM Park, featuring local teams of all skill levels taking part in Play for Pink in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, a Learn to Play session with Team Canada alumnae Becky Kellar and Cheryl Pounder, a Provincial Women’s Hockey League game featuring Kitchener-Waterloo and Whitby, as well as a Canadian Women’s Hockey League game featuring Brampton an Toronto (please visit www.waterlooravens.com for more information).
